Residence: October 10 to 20, 2007
Exhibition: October 26 to November 11, 2007
During 10 days FABRIKculture, located in a former textile mill converted into a stunning exhibition hall at Hegenheim (Alsace, France), will host and present two artists and two critics from Bosnia - Herzegovina who were chosen by the network during the Research Trip to Sarajevo and Banja Luka.
The artists, Mladen Miljanovic and Damir Niksic, will open up a dialogue throught their creative work. The two projects are distinct but closely related in their approach. The artists will be accompanied by two art critics : Ivana Udovicic (National Gallery of Bosnia - Herzegovina, Sarajevo) and Sarita Vujkovic (Contemporary Art Museum of Republika Srpska, Banja Luka).
Mladen Miljanovic, born in 1981 in Zenica, was an army adjudant before becoming an artist. His most recent major project called “I serve art” will be resumed in Hégenheim but this time the artist will point up his denunciaton of the ‘militarized’ system imposed by inhumane market laws. Though a series of installations and videos, the public will discover the artist’s forceful world and and his trenchant citicism of the surfeit of publicity messages invadingour living environment.
Damir Niksic, born in 1970 in Brcko, is a renowned artist. His black-and-white installations and videos deal with various deviant representations of the Orient. He is the creator of “Boogyman” who lives in “Boogyland”. Boogyman’s extravagances on the one hand give the lie to the stereotypes of islamic societies which have grown in the West, and, on the other, stress the abuse of ‘Orientalizing’ – through huge panels of ‘sacred’ images dripping with exoctic romanticism. For the exhibition ‘Relations’ Damir Niksic will propose several new works including a video entitled “Peacemakers, Warmongers” a parallel presentation of Indian tribes, Arabs and American armies.
