The project brings to a dialogue the Finnish and Polish photographers.
Ari Saarto and Riita Paivalainen are representing the renown Helsinki School of Photography (TAIK). Krzysztof Olszewski is an emerging Polish photographer and organizer of photo events promoting innovative attitudes in the field of photography.
The common denominator for the artistic practice of the invited artists is the experience of the landscape. The very results of the artistic encounters with the landscape are in the case of the invited artists highly distinct as their artistic practice is saturated by a different sensibility and attitude towards nature. The idiom of pure nature being particularly strong within Finnish art is opposed to a landscape perceived as a screen for poetic projections, that is a recurring motif in Polish artistic tradition.
The project creates a platform for a dialogue in between different artistic attitudes questioning the national idiom and its impact on the process of creation.
The curatorial studio visit to Finland will serve as a first stage in the process of preparations for the Research Trip in that country.
