The exhibition "Medium...Post...Mortem" is organised by La Châtaigneraie (Belgium) & The National Museum in Szczecin (Poland).
This exhibition is associated with the Biennale “Festival of Engraving “, organised by the Liège municipality’s print collection. Within the five-partner network of the Artventure project, Poland stands out as the country with the longest-standing tradition and the highest reputation with respect to engraving. The Polish partner, the National Museum of Szczecin nominated Roman Lewandowski for the curatorship for this exhibition. The selection of artists and the choice of works raise the problem of the very existence of engraving in a world where the new technologies have taken over from traditional techniques of reproduction.
“The aim of the exhibition “ Medium... Post... Mortem... “ is to diagnose the situation in which the art of engraving presently finds itself. It also stimulates reflection on the potential of this discipline from the point of view of the other media “ (…) “The impact of the development of electronic media on the structure of the work of art and particularly on engraving can be compared to the consequences of the invention of photography. One only has to think of the redefinition of the structure of the medium and the work, of digital multiplication or again the appearance of the multimedia”.
