The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), a department of the National Museum in Szczecin, is a public institution jointly funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the West Pomeranian Provincial Government. It is tasked with developing the National Museum in Szczecin’s collection of Polish and foreign art of the 20th century, as well as the collection of the newest art phenomena. The MCA carries out a wide ranging program of contemporary art promotion. The MCA runs its own exhibition space for temporary presentations and develops numerous artistic projects both in Poland and abroad, organized in collaboration with local, national and international partners. Since the mid-1990s, the MCA has administered the MARE ARTICUM program, which aims at mutual collaborations in the Baltic Sea region through the development of a Baltic cultural network. Within MARE ARTICUM, the MCA organizes the Baltic Contemporary Art Biennial in Szczecin. The MCA’s activities also include publishing catalogues that document its programs and exhibitions.
